The Graduate Certificate in African Studies is awarded to students enrolled in or completing graduate programs at Michigan State University to certify their advanced training in African area studies. It is usually sought by the Ph.D. candidate.

Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior

The Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior is a multidisciplinary program of study and research leading to a Master's specialization or dual-major Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior and one of the traditional disciplines offered by thirteen participating departments.

Environmental and Resource Economics

MSU offers a degree certification in Environmental and Resource Economics through the interdepartmental Graduate Specialization. The certification requirements are fulfilled while enrolled in the M.Sc. or Ph.D. program of one of the six participating departments. A graduate student who completes the requirements may request a formal degree certification in Environmental and Resource Economics.

Gender, Justice and Environmental Change

Gender, Justice and Environmental Change is a graduate specialization available as an elective for students who are enrolled in master's and doctoral degree programs at Michigan State University. The specialization is sponsored jointly by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Social Science. This program, first offered in Fall 2000, is the first of its kind in the nation explicitly focusing on the intersection of gender, environmental change, and social and environmental justice. The program is designed in particular to examine these issues and processes from both local and global perspectives, challenging traditional dichotomies between the First and Third World, the North and the South.

International Food Laws and Regulations Certificate Program

This is an Internet distance education program that consists of a series of region-specific food law courses taught completely over the Internet by an international network of food science academic and legal professionals who understand the legal complexities of the food laws and how they impact the flow of food and agricultural products across national boundaries.

Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies awards a Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The Center Graduate Certificate demonstrates a knowledge of, competency in, and understanding of Latin America and the Caribbean. Masters candidates may earn certificates but generally, the majority of students who pursue a Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies will be doctoral candidates. Students interested in gaining a certificate should fill out the requisite form, available at the Center and arrange for an interview with the CLACS Director.
