Ecosystems and Human Well-Being
Biogeochemistry Environmental Research Initiative (BERI)
http://biogeochemistry.plantbiology.msu.edu/
Biogeochemistry, which lies at the nexus of biology, geology, and chemistry, is an integrative science that has emerged from the growing need to understand how living organisms interact with physical and chemical aspects of their environment. Such interactions play fundamental roles in limiting the abundance and distribution of plants and animals, and in sustaining ecosystems that we manage for production of food and fiber.Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability
http://www.csis.msu.edu/
CSIS's mission is to develop and maintain a center of excellence that integrates ecology with socioeconomics, demography, and other disciplines for ecological sustainability from local, national, to global scales.Center for Global Change & Earth Observations
http://www.globalchange.msu.edu/
CGCEO's mission is to foster interdisciplinary approaches for understanding global change at all scales using the tools of both the social and bio-physical sciences.Center for Microbial Ecology
http://www.cme.msu.edu/
The intellectual focus of the CME is to understand factors that influence the competitiveness, diversity and function of microorganisms in their natural and managed habitats.Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior Program
http://www.msu.edu/~eebb/
The Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior is a multidisciplinary program of study and research leading to a Master's specialization or dual-major Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior and one of the traditional disciplines offered by EEBB participating departments.Invasive Species Initiative
http://www.invasivespecies.msu.edu/
Invasive species present one of today's most important environmental and social challenges. As a hub of international travel and commerce, Michigan and the Great Lakes region are particularly vulnerable to invasive species. Michigan State University has a diverse faculty and staff with internationally recognized expertise and programs on invasive species research, education and outreach.Kellogg Biological Station
http://www.kbs.msu.edu/
KBS is Michigan State University's largest off-campus education complex and one of North America's premier inland field stations. The 4,000-acre station includes Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Kellogg Farm, the Kellogg Biological Laboratories, the KBS Conference Center, Extension and Outreach offices and the Lux Arbor Reserve. KBS' mission is to develop programs in research, education and extension directed toward a comprehensive understanding of natural and managed ecosystems and the conservation of natural resources. World renowned for its contributions to ecological science and evolutionary biology, the Station is home to one of the National Science Foundation's Long-Term Ecological Research sites, and is committed to science and ecology education, conservation of natural resources and sustainable agriculture research and demonstration.Kellogg Long Term Ecological Research Site
http://lter.kbs.msu.edu/
The Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Site is part of the national LTER Network established by the U.S. National Science Foundation in 1980. The Network is made up of 20 sites at which long-term research in ecology and environmental biology provides a better understanding of ecological phenomena in both natural and managed ecosystems. Research at the KBS LTER site is directed towards understanding ecological interactions underlying the productivity of both annual and perennial field crops. One of the organizing questions of the KBS LTER Project centers on the role of biodiversity in the agricultural landscape, and in particular on the functional significance of diversity with respect to ecosystem function.Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project
http://smep.msu.edu/aboutus.asp
The objectives of the Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project (SMEP) are focused on research that supports sustainable development in Michigan. A major goal is to bring credibility and support to integrative efforts. The SMEP has an executive committee composed mainly of endowed chairs who have pledged to share viewpoints, methodologies, projects, leadership, research agenda, and policy analysis so as to be catalysts for a portfolio of multidisciplinary research that will provide the foundation for healthier communities, economies, and ecosystems in Michigan.
